Bruin Theatre to Reopen in Westwood
The historic Bruin Theatre in Westwood is expected to reopen as early as October 2026 after more than two years of closure. Rui Pereira a Toronto-based exhibitor has signed a new lease to revive the iconic single-screen theatre, which will operate independently from the neighbouring Directors Village. The adjacent theatre is undergoing a $25 million renovation after being acquired by a group of filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan. The Bruin plans to preserve its classic seating and screen movies in 35mm and 70mm film, while also hosting special events and screenings for the local community and UCLA students.

Los Angeles is experiencing a revival of its historic movie theatres with iconic venues returning to the spotlight after years of closures and uncertainty.
